2Kgs.17 olrsv
[28] So one of the priests whom they had carried away from Sama’ria came and dwelt in Bethel, and taught them how they should fear the LORD.

2Kgs.17 mprsv
[28] So one of the priests whom they had carried away from Samar’ia came and dwelt in Bethel, and taught them how they should fear the LORD.

2Kgs.17 olt
[28] So one of the priests whom they had carried away from Samaria came and dwelt in Beth-el, and taught them how they should fear HaShem.

II Kgs.17 mpt
[28] So one of the priests whom they had exiled from Samaria came and settled in Bethel; he taught them how to worship the LORD.

One needs to consider that the 12 Tribes have split into Israel 10 and Judah.  Assyria is attacking Israel in Samaria.  This is before King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon, Iraq, and the fall of Judah and Jerusalem.

Compare the mpt verse to the other three:

“exiled” v “carried”

Remove under force of conquest versus helped move.  The use of exiled is much more to what took place at that time.

“worship” v “fear”

“worship” is a way to come to GOD.  And this was before the time of Ezra and the establishment of judaism so the worship was a one on ONE process between the child and GOD according to the “old book”.

“fear” of GOD kept people away from the children of GOD.

See a comparison in the next two verses:

IIChr.17 mpt
[9] And they offered instruction throughout Judah, having with them the book of the Teaching of the LORD.  They made the rounds to all the cities of the LORD and instructed the people. [10] A terror of the LORD seized all the kingdoms of the lands around Judah, and they did not go to war with Jehoshaphat.

Contemplation:

1. Israel at the time of this event.

2. Judah at the time of this event.

3. Assyria at the time of this event.

4. What GOD warned them would happen if they departed from HIM was happening.

5. Where are we today ????
