This verse will need some additional reading around it for additional understanding.
This is a story of Gideon judging the Israelites. During the campaign the elders of Succoth mocked Gideon having refused Gideon and his army food. Gideon returning to them, 77, from the campaign punished them.
Note the word “mocked”: “But they [the Israelites] mocked the messengers of GOD and disdained HIS WORDS and taunted HIS prophets until the WRATH of the LORD against HIS people grew beyond remedy.” II Chronicles 36.16. The 8th to the last verse from the end of mpt. This is around 616 BCE. GOD circumcised HIS once chosen servant people from HIM.
“servant people” is used here because the Israelites where to be servants to the bring the whole world to GOD. But, they themselves could not even remain with GOD. Starting with the second generation after Moses, which is what the Book of Judges is about.
Compare the mpt verse to the other three:
“punished” v “taught”
Judgment is all about punishment after teach has failed. GOD coming to earth as IMMANUEL, THE CHRIST, in THE BODY & BLOOD, THE FLESH, of JESUS was to teach HIS WAY to the people of the world one last time. “I came to cast fire upon the earth; and would that it were already kindled! I have a baptism to be baptized with; and how I AM constrained until it is accomplished!” Luke 12.49-50.
We are in the last opportunity to return to GOD one on ONE face to FACE before HE, HIMSELF, will stand before us and ask us what we know of HIM !!!!!!!

“people” v “men”
GOD’S teachings are not just for men, but each and every one of us of the world.
GOD wants all of HIS children to return to HIM !!!!
